Lisa Fruchey’s dance training began at Chairmain’s Studio of Dance in St. Claire Shores, Michigan. She received a full scholarship to the University of Hawaii where she earned her degree in business and dance. Her professional credits include: the role of Cha Cha in Grease, a company member of the Honolulu Dance Company, a member of Detroit Piston’s Automotion dance team, artistic director of the University of Hawaii Dance Team, Director of the summer performing arts program at Kamehameha High school, and coach/choreographer for local high school dance teams. Lisa is also a professional adjudicator for dance competitions such as Starpower, Revolution and Nexstar dance companies.
Lisa proudest moment of her dance career was when she opened Big City Dance Center of Wixom in 2000. The studio has grown to be one of the most respected dance programs in Michigan and across the country. It is her desire to teach the art of dance with passion with an emphasis on correct technique and wonderful artistry. Many students have graduated from Big City and gone on to receive scholarships at Universities such as: University of Hawaii, Oakland University, Grand Valley University and Pointe Park University. Other students have sough out professional work in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles and professional dance companies around the country.
Christie has been dancing for 18 years and teaching for 6 years. Christie's talent is her sincerity and passion for teaching children the art of dance. She created and implemented Big City's "stars of tomorrow" program which introduces our young dancers to competing. With her tutelage, this program has won numerous overall awards at competition and has grown in membership by leaps and bounds. Christie is a very accomplished dancer and competitive cheerleader. In addition to training locally, her advanced dance training includes: master classes at Eastern Michigan University and Wayne State University, Broadway Dance Center in NY, NY, and many conventions from renown choreographers in the industry. Christie has a Bachelors degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University.
Jenna has been dancing since she was four and has been with Big City for 11 years. She has trained with many Choreographers in the Industry including Sonya Tayah, Kacy Combs, and Mandy Moore. And renown dance schools such as The Edge in LA and Broadway Dance Center in New York City. She has performed on numerous stages including The Disney Cruise, Walt Disney World and The Purple Rose Theatre. Jenna has won multiple high point awards and also received the Title of Miss Dance at Kids Artistic Review.
In addition to her dance training Jenna received a Degree in Electronic Media from Eastern Michigan University.
Andrew, originally from Thomasboro, Illinois, began his dance training at the age of six. He trained with Christine Rich and Luciana Rezende at the Christine Rich Dance Studio Academy and Performing Arts Center in Savoy, IL. He also guest stared in Champaign-Urbana Ballet productions. At the age of 16 Andrew received a full scholarship to The Washington School of Ballet in DC to further his training while attending Duke Ellington School of the Arts to finish his senior year of High School. Andrew has received scholarships to attend summer intensives at Washington School of Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, The Rock School of Ballet in Philadelphia, Faubourg Ballet Chicago, and has been a finalist in the international competition YAGP (Youth American Gran Prix) both years he competed. He is currently an Eisenhower Dance Ensemble dancer and a proud teacher at Big City Dance.
Becca Grden, A Michigan local, has trained across jazz, ballet, modern, contemporary, hip-hop and tap. Becca knew she wanted to pursue dance when she was 15 and immediately began choreographing, at a very young age winning "young choreographer of the year" in 2007. After graduating high school, Becca attended Western Michigan University and focused her studies on public relations and dance. There she was a member of the nationally ranked bronco dance team. Becca has been teaching and choreographing dance for 9 years now and finds that's where her passion lays. She also judges for national dance competitions and attends training seminars and conventions. Her work, and her students, have been recognized receiving top honors at local and national conventions and competitions. This is Becca’s first year teaching at Big City and she cannot wait to bring her positive energy.
Lainie Morrison-Fryer joined the Big City Dance Center coaching team in 2015 and has over 40 years of dance experience and developed much of her dance technique, style, and teaching methodology from her former teacher and choreographer Mary Helen Stuart of the former Masters of Dance Arts, Canton, Michigan where she acquired training in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, tumbling, modern and contemporary. Over the years, Lainie had the opportunity to study with some master teachers and chorographers such as Bob Fosse, Phil Black, Gregory Hines and Gus Giordano in Chicago and New York City and also performed for the U.S.O. Lainie received her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Advertising from Eastern Michigan University, where she was a member of their dance team. Lainie truly feels that her main goal as a teacher is to build each student’s confidence by drawing out their strengths while improving on their technique, skills and overall performance in a fun atmosphere.
Lindsay Chirio began her training at a young age as both a dancer and a gymnast. She started training at Big City since the doors opened which then lead her to pursue her career as a dancer. She graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and, for a short period, apprenticed with the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Bloomfield Hills where she received training in different styles of ballroom. Lindsay apprenticed with Eisenhower Dance for two years and was promoted to a company member in 2014. She has taken classes and trained at intensives with many professional companies, such as Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, and Eisenhower Dance. She has had the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Ron De Jesus, Gina Patterson, Paul Christiano, and Ahmad Simmons, among others. She has been teaching at Big City Dance Center for 11 years, choreographs for competitive gymnasts, and also teaches at intensives and workshops throughout Metro Detroit.
Lauren studied ballet and jazz at Young People’s Ballet Theatre (formerly known as The Paavola School of Dance). During high school, she attended Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp twice dancing under the direction of Jefferson Baum when she was invited to join the International Ballet Ensemble in Europe. She also studied with professionals including Joe Tremaine, Ray Leeper, Nan Giordano, John Lehrer, The Rockettes, Soloists at Alvin Ailey, and Hubbard Street II. After high school, Lauren studied dance at the collegiate level at Oakland University, Western Michigan University, and the University of Michigan. In 2016, Lauren attended American Ballet Theatre’s Teacher Training Intensive for levels Primary through Level 3. Lauren is also certified in teaching The Giordano Technique classes at Basic + Beginning levels.
