Lisa Fruchey’s dance training began at Chairmain’s Studio of Dance in St. Claire Shores, Michigan. She received a full scholarship to the University of Hawaii where she earned her degree in business and dance. Her professional credits include: the role of Cha Cha in Grease, a company member of the Honolulu Dance Company, a member of Detroit Piston’s Automotion dance team, artistic director of the University of Hawaii Dance Team, Director of the summer performing arts program at Kamehameha High school, and coach/choreographer for local high school dance teams. Lisa is also a professional adjudicator for dance competitions such as Starpower, Revolution and Nexstar dance companies.
Lisa proudest moment of her dance career was when she opened Big City Dance Center of Wixom in 2000. The studio has grown to be one of the most respected dance programs in Michigan and across the country. It is her desire to teach the art of dance with passion with an emphasis on correct technique and wonderful artistry. Many students have graduated from Big City and gone on to receive scholarships at Universities such as: University of Hawaii, Oakland University, Grand Valley University and Pointe Park University. Other students have sough out professional work in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles and professional dance companies around the country.
Jenna has been dancing since she was four and has been with Big City for 11 years. She has trained with many Choreographers in the Industry including Sonya Tayah, Kacy Combs, and Mandy Moore. And renown dance schools such as The Edge in LA and Broadway Dance Center in New York City. She has performed on numerous stages including The Disney Cruise, Walt Disney World and The Purple Rose Theatre. Jenna has won multiple high point awards and also received the Title of Miss Dance at Kids Artistic Review.
In addition to her dance training Jenna received a Degree in Electronic Media from Eastern Michigan University.
Becca Grden, A Michigan local, has trained across jazz, ballet, modern, contemporary, hip-hop and tap. Becca knew she wanted to pursue dance when she was 15 and immediately began choreographing, at a very young age winning "young choreographer of the year" in 2007. After graduating high school, Becca attended Western Michigan University and focused her studies on public relations and dance. There she was a member of the nationally ranked bronco dance team. Becca has been teaching and choreographing dance for 9 years now and finds that's where her passion lays. She also judges for national dance competitions and attends training seminars and conventions. Her work, and her students, have been recognized receiving top honors at local and national conventions and competitions. This is Becca’s first year teaching at Big City and she cannot wait to bring her positive energy.
A Michigan native, Nicole Bonsall received her early classical ballet training under the tutelage of her mother Julie Bonsall. She spent her Summers’ training on full scholarship at such prestigious schools as The Joffrey Ballet, Houston Ballet and Ballet West amongst others. Her professional career included a principle dancer with the Alabama Ballet under the direction of the renowned Dame Sonia Arova, where she danced numerous leading roles including the Sugar Plum Fairy, Le Corsaire Pas de deux as well as Snow White in Thor Sutowski's original ballet. As a member of the Atlanta she danced several ballets such as Paquita, Midsummer's Night Dream, Stars and Stripes and Carmina Burana under the direction of Robert Barnett. She had the privilege of starting her professional career under the direction of the acclaimed Ben Stevenson at the Houston Ballet. Additionally, She was honored to have danced for the Queen of Sweden and tour Taiwan performing Balanchine’s Four Temperaments. Ms. Bonsall continues to share her love of ballet and technical expertise through teaching. She encourages her students to embrace their inner artistry and follow their true passion.Dedicated to technique and cross training, Nicole recently became certified in The Progressing Ballet Technique Training program. Nicole is proud to have graduated Cum Laude from Oakland University.
Shannon has been part of the dance industry for over 30 years. Hailing from Dearborn Heights, Mi, she studied various disciplines, performed for the Detroit Pistons & Rockers, choreographed local productions and has taught both competitively and recreationally at multiple studios through out the metro Detroit area. She has transformed competitive Tap Dance programs into platinum, & overall winning pieces that also won entertainment & showstopper awards in a matter of months. Her group, trio, duo and solo pieces have won high awards as well as overall awards at competitions throughout the U.S. and has received choreography awards for entertainment value, intensity and technique. Shannon has worked as a dance and cheer coach, pompon coach, dance instructor, choreographer and competition judge for over 15 years. Her students have gone on to study with Alvin Ailey, earn college degrees in Dance Education, become members of the Detroit Tap Repertory and even become dance teachers! Shannon enjoys creating age appropriate choreography that pushes the envelope in a creative way. She prides herself in maintaining a healthy balance of discipline and fun in her classes. She instills in her students that it is ok to be different, regardless of what others perceive to be normal. In addition to joining the Big City staff in 2018, Shannon also coaches the University of Michigan Pompon team. Go Blue!
Emily has been dancing since she was 4 years old. She fell in love with dance early on! Her dance experiences include competing in the New York City Dance Alliance Nationals in their Outstanding Dancer program in NYC for 3 summers, performing onstage at Disney World, FL, and competing at Youth America Grand Prix in Chicago, where she placed in the top 12 in her category. Emily has also performed in the Nutcracker children’s cast at the Detroit Opera House with The Cincinnati Ballet Company and The Joffrey Ballet Company. Emily was also a dancer in the music video “Christmas Without You and Me” with Tony Vitale. Emily studied at Eastern Michigan University and recently obtained her bachelor of science degree in Dance performance and Choreography. This is her first year teaching at Big City and she is very excited to share her love of dance with her students!
Lindsay Chirio began her training at a young age as both a dancer and a gymnast. She started training at Big City since the doors opened which then lead her to pursue her career as a dancer. She graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and, for a short period, apprenticed with the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Bloomfield Hills where she received training in different styles of ballroom. Lindsay apprenticed with Eisenhower Dance for two years and was promoted to a company member in 2014. She has taken classes and trained at intensives with many professional companies, such as Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, and Eisenhower Dance. She has had the opportunity to work with choreographers such as Ron De Jesus, Gina Patterson, Paul Christiano, and Ahmad Simmons, among others. She has been teaching at Big City Dance Center for 11 years, choreographs for competitive gymnasts, and also teaches at intensives and workshops throughout Metro Detroit.
Lauren studied ballet and jazz at Young People’s Ballet Theatre (formerly known as The Paavola School of Dance). During high school, she attended Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp twice dancing under the direction of Jefferson Baum when she was invited to join the International Ballet Ensemble in Europe. She also studied with professionals including Joe Tremaine, Ray Leeper, Nan Giordano, John Lehrer, The Rockettes, Soloists at Alvin Ailey, and Hubbard Street II. After high school, Lauren studied dance at the collegiate level at Oakland University, Western Michigan University, and the University of Michigan. In 2016, Lauren attended American Ballet Theatre’s Teacher Training Intensive for levels Primary through Level 3. Lauren is also certified in teaching The Giordano Technique classes at Basic + Beginning levels.
